The Optimism in Arthur Schopenhauer’s Pessimistic Philosophy
Nothing Matters And It’s Great.
Nothing seems real,
I can’t feel,
Perhaps everything is but an illusion.
Maybe all there is, is just a Will.
These words descended upon me this morning like angel dust. After they’ve settled and I had a moment of silence with them, I immediately thought of one of my favourite Philosophers :
Mr Arthur Schonpenhuaer.
I thought of him because my epiphany reminded me of his most famous work:
“The World as Will and Representation”
In a nutshell, it is the idea that the world as you know it is simply a representation created by your mind.
For example, I might perceive the colour blue as Blue because that is how my mind has represented it in my reality. But you see, I can never be sure if your representation of the colour blue in your reality is the same as mine.
